High Five! Downtown Business Funding
OPEN to the PUBLIC!
Come out to our first High Five! event and vote for your favorite downtown business project and help that business win funds to bring their project to fruition!
This is a live crowd funding event. $5 at the door secures your vote for one of three project/business finalists. Representatives from the three business finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their project to all attendees. They will have exactly 5 minutes each for their pitch. YOU get to decide who wins! The business receiving the most votes will win 100% of the money collected at the door + approximately $2000!!!
You must be present at the event to vote and you must pay $5 (or more if you like!) to secure one vote.
------------
WE HAVE OUR THREE FINALISTS for the March 10th, 2020 presentations!
Congrats to Believe It Nutrition, Blush Beauty Bar, Roadrunner Emporium!
------------
Interested BUSINESSES (too late for THIS event, but next event will be scheduled at a later date):
What is this?
High Five! is a community-supported crowd-funding event. Community members are presented with projects that would positively impact downtown Alamogordo and vote on the project they want to support with donations from the door and generous support of our community partners.
How It Works.
• Only businesses located within the Alamogordo MainStreet district qualify to apply.
• Three pre-selected proposals for projects that benefit the community are presented by the business (maximum 5 minutes per presentation – no slides, video, etc. allowed so get creative!).
• All event attendees make a donation of at least $5 for a vote.
• Attendees cast their vote for the project they want to help fund.
• The project with the most public attendee votes receives all of the money raised at the door + approximately $2,000 from grant funds and/or community partners.
• Winner comes back to a future High Five! to tell the audience how their project went/is progressing, how they used the money, and the impact it had on the community!

2019 Shop Small Passport to Christmas
Small Business Saturday® (SBS) was created in 2010 by American Express® to support local shops that make our communities strong. Small Business Saturday is always the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to shop small and bring more holiday shopping to small Businesses.
In an effort to encourage our local community to shop small in Otero County, the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, Alamogordo MainStreet, Small Business Development Center and the City of Alamogordo have partnered to create “Shop Small Passport to Christmas”. This event will start on SBS, Nov. 30th, and run until Christmas Eve.

In order for a shopper to be eligible to win the grand prize worth $400, they must:
• Ask a staff member for a Stamp on one of the empty squares in their passport.
• Collect at least 10 stamps
• Complete the back page of the passport with their personal information
Once Shoppers have received at least 10 stamps, they may turn their booklet in to any one of the three locations listed below. 10 Stamps will grant ONE ticket into the raffle. 15 stamps will grant TWO tickets into the raffle. If all 20 stamps are received, that will grant FIVE tickets into the raffle! The grand prize winner will receive $200 cash and at least $200 worth of gifts!

Downtown Alamogordo MRA Plan Public Meeting
The City of Alamogordo and Alamogordo MainStreet are hosting a public meeting to present the draft Downtown Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Plan. The City’s consultant, Consensus Planning, will be making a presentation of the draft MRA Plan and taking comments. The draft Downtown MRA Plan can be reviewed or downloaded from https://nm-alamogordo.civicplus.com/.../City-of...
The Downtown Alamogordo MRA Plan identifies specific redevelopment projects, public sector investments, and support actions to help achieve the community's vision gleaned from the community engagement process that was initiated in March 2018. The Downtown MRA Plan provides a powerful planning tool for establishing future public/private partnerships and communicates the types of uses and redevelopment that are appropriate for Downtown Alamogordo. The Downtown MRA Plan has been developed to be consistent with and further the City of Alamogordo's 2018 Comprehensive Plan.
The Downtown MRA was designated in 2017 by the Alamogordo City Commission. The designation was based on a report that documented existing physical and economic conditions within Downtown Alamogordo that contribute to blight and impair the social and economic well-being of the community. A MRA Plan provides the means to address those conditions through rehabilitation and redevelopment efforts.
Public Meeting: Date: Monday, January 28, 2019

Location: Willie Estrada Civic Center, 800 E. 1st Street
