Building on the existing commercial base, arts, culture, advanced technology and creative assets in Alamogordo MainStreet, strive to strengthen and support entrepreneurial and creative endeavors through assessment, education, planning, and collaboration.

Create a Thriving Place in Alamogordo

Develop strategies, tools and techniques and implement them with local partners to transform downtown Alamogordo into a community asset where the greatest economic potential and realization can occur. This includes great public spaces, buildings, streets and pedestrian areas, increasing economic viability through revitalization resulting in places to live and work that enhance people’s health, happiness, and well-being.

Strategy One

Re-establish the downtown MainStreet district as a center of multigeneration residents to eat, shop and play. 

Projects:

As of December 2022, Alamogordo was accepted into the Arts & Culture District Jumpstart program. We continue to work with our community and representatives to further create this district in our community.

Alamogordo MainStreet was recently awarded the AARP Community Challenge Grant. We are partnering with community members for our Side Street Art Project to create beautiful places for downtown patrons.

Alamogordo MainStreet received a 1.9 million dollar grant through the Great Blocks program for our MainStreet Makeover. This project is set to begin construction in 2024 and will address utility issues, update ADA compliance, and create more aesthetically pleasing streetscape.

Establish a Downtown business accelerator program to assist budding entrepreneur businesses through economic development and community resources.

Strategy Two

Connect Holloman AFB personnel and their families to downtown offerings.

Projects:

Christmas on Mainstreet - Join us for our largest event of the year, celebrating the joy of the season. Alamogordo MainStreet presents Christmas on MainStreet.
Come stroll New York Avenue and experience the Christmas spirit. Listen to the choirs, enjoy our local dancers, sip hot cocoa & cider, enjoy of wonderful entertainment and eat delicious food from vendors. Visit our Santa's Village, join us for our Ugly Sweater Contest, Christmas pet costume contest, and Little Miss and Mister Christmas pageant. Shops will stay open late! Don't miss this event brought to you by Alamogordo MainStreet.

Establish a pilot program in partnership with military spouse groups to establish one HAFB spouse activity downtown per quarter.

Continue outreach to Holloman AFB personnel and families to gain insight into needs and interests as how to best serve our military community.
